ACCOMMODATION COST GUIDE

Meghalaya Hotel & Stay Cost Guide

Accommodation can make a major difference to the total cost of a Meghalaya trip. Treat stay costs as planning ranges rather than fixed prices.

Why hotel prices vary

Room prices change significantly by location, travel month, weekends, holidays, room category, breakfast inclusion, availability, property quality and demand.

How we calculate stay cost

Hotels and homestays generally charge per room, not per person. For planning, we assume two adults share one room and divide the room cost by two for the per-person estimate. A ₹4,000 room is approximately ₹2,000 per person/night. Odd-numbered groups normally require the room count to be rounded up—for example, five travellers usually need three rooms unless suitable triple or family occupancy is available.

Budget stay

₹1,500–₹3,000₹750–₹1,500 per person/night

A practical choice for travellers who mainly need a clean, dependable place to sleep.

  • Simple hotels
  • Guesthouses and homestays
  • Basic rooms
  • Limited facilities

Comfort stay

₹3,000–₹5,500₹1,500–₹2,750 per person/night

For many travellers, this offers the best balance between comfort and price.

  • Well-rated hotels
  • Better homestays
  • Comfortable rooms and cleaner facilities
  • Better locations
  • Breakfast often included

Premium stay

₹5,500–₹10,000₹2,750–₹5,000 per person/night

A stronger choice when room quality, space, service or location matters more.

  • Boutique hotels and better resorts
  • Premium or more spacious rooms
  • Better views or locations
  • Stronger service standards

Luxury stay

₹10,000–₹20,000+₹5,000–₹10,000+ per person/night

High-end stays with stronger facilities and service. Rates can exceed this range during peak periods.

  • Luxury resorts and upscale hotels
  • Premium room categories
  • Resort dining
  • Higher service levels
  • Scenic properties

Hotel prices by location

Shillong has the widest range, from budget and business hotels to boutique and luxury properties. Sohra or Cherrapunji offers homestays, mid-range properties and premium resorts. Dawki and Shnongpdeng accommodation is generally simpler, with homestays, camps and smaller properties; travellers prioritising hotel comfort may prefer a day visit.

AC vs non-AC rooms

Do not assume every Meghalaya hotel has air conditioning. Non-AC rooms may be comfortable in cooler areas and months, but AC can matter in warmer Dawki or Shnongpdeng. When AC is unavailable, confirm fans, ventilation, windows and power backup.

Breakfast

Breakfast is commonly included, but it is not guaranteed. Always ask whether breakfast is included in the room rate because this changes the daily food budget.

Dynamic stay estimate

The planner calculates rooms required × nights × selected stay tier. For four travellers using two Comfort rooms over four nights, the estimated stay cost is ₹24,000–₹44,000, or approximately ₹6,000–₹11,000 per traveller for the trip.

Important

These are rough planning estimates only. Accommodation is not automatically included in the transport quote, is not collected by us unless specifically stated and is usually paid directly to the property or booking provider. Confirm the actual room rate before booking, especially for peak dates, weekends and holidays.

In simple terms

Budget: basic but economical. Comfort: the best balance for most travellers. Premium: better rooms, locations and resorts. Luxury: high-end stays and premium resort experiences.
