Five days covers the classic Shillong–Sohra–Dawki circuit at a steady pace. Six or seven days gives room for Jaintia Hills, Nongriat trekking or a slower family itinerary.
3–4 days: Shillong and Sohra highlights
5 days: add Dawki or Mawlynnong
6–7 days: add Jaintia Hills or a dedicated trekking day
A sensible route order
A common route is Guwahati → Umiam → Shillong → Sohra → Mawlynnong → Dawki/Shnongpdeng → Guwahati. Staying near Sohra or Shnongpdeng can reduce backtracking.
Best months and conditions
November to February is generally drier and often better for Dawki water clarity. March and April are comfortable transition months. Monsoon brings powerful waterfalls but also heavier rain, mist and slippery paths.
Vehicles and traveller comfort
A sedan suits two or three travellers with light luggage; an MPV is more comfortable for families and longer drives. Elderly travellers should avoid stacking steep waterfall paths or Nongriat’s many stairs into already long driving days.
